Vivian Lowrey

Vivian Lowrey (1933-19 96) was a beloved popular Native American artist of the Flathead Reservation in Montana. She was known as the “painter lady” and most of her works were painted in the 1970’s. It is hard to find available pieces changing hands as they are treasured examples of Native American artistry and are passed down to generations.

She was a member of the Confederated Salish/Kootenai tribes incorrectly referred to as the “Flathead Indians” by early Americans. In 2013 the tribe was estimated to have 6,400 members, of which 4,000 live on the Flathead Reservation.
